www.African Safaris and Travel - Our safaris reflect every travelers style, time frame and budget!
The Classic Luangwa Safari enables guests to experience
the best the bountiful South Luangwa has to offer. We have
created an itinerary where you enjoy two nights in either
Chinzombo or Kapani followed by eight nights in our remote
bush camps (generally two nights in each camp.
We
believe this itinerary gives you the best opportunity and
plenty of time to combine walking and driving safaris and
explore the amazing variety of habitat and species of the
South Luangwa, with award winning guides in small, remote
camps – exploring a landscape unchanged for thousands of
years.
Our bush camps have all been specifically located to allow you to walk from camp to camp in a circuit if you wish; arriving at your destination camp with your bags waiting in your room and in time for brunch and a cold drink. Alternatively you can transfer by an open 4X4 game viewing vehicle. The bush camps are all very different in design and have unique charm and lovely views of the dry sand Luwi, or Luangwa Rivers.
Days 1-2
Chinzombo or Kapami Lodge
You will be met at Lusaka Airport and escorted onto your domestic flight to Mfuwe, a flight of just over 1 hour. Your safari guide will meet you at Mfuwe Airport and drive you the lodge to settle in and recover from your journey.
In the afternoon you’ll have a game drive and after sundowners you’ll search for nocturnal species such as genet, civet, porcupine and honey-badger, rarely seen in daylight hours. Return to camp at around 7:30pm in time for dinner.
Days 3-4
Luwi Bush Camp
After two nights at Kapani you will be driven deep into the National Park to Luwi Bush Camp. Your first night is likely to be accompanied by the noises of the wildlife around camp.
When day breaks and after a light breakfast around the camp fire, you will head out on foot to pick up the fresh tracks of a pride of lion or investigate the alarm calls of the local troop of baboon.
This is no nature trail - this is the real thing - you are tracking big game through the African bush, on foot like the first Luangwa pioneers.
Days 5-6
Nsolo Bush Camp
On the second morning at Luwi your guide will walk you down the meandering Luwi River course.
Your destination is Nsolo, the second of your bush camps. After a few hours gentle walking and exploration you’ll arrive into camp to find a warm welcome, a cool drink, brunch on the table and your bags in your room.
The next two days are spent on foot or in an open safari vehicle exploring the wilds of the Nsolo area.
Days 7-8
Kakuli Bush Camp
The next move takes you further down the Luwi River, again on foot or by 4x4 game viewer if you prefer, to its confluence with the main Luangwa River and to Kakuli Camp.
There are more game viewing tracks in this area so it is possible to use vehicles as well as explore the area which is famous for its high population of leopards on foot.
Days
9-10
Mchenja Bush Camp
A taste of sophistication awaits you at Mchenja. The last camp on the trail is set under the shade of immense ebony trees. The five individually designed tents each have a bath inside as well as an open, en-suite shower and toilet.
The main lounge houses a small plunge pool alongside the bar and sitting area and meals are usually taken on the river bank. You will be able to do both game walks and drives and the wildlife viewing in this area is some of the best in the Park.
