Oddballs Enclave (Okavango Delta) Botswana
Location:
Oddballs Enclave is situated on the edge of Chief's Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only. On arrival you will be met at the airstrip and welcomed to the island.
Oddballs’ Enclave is an adjunct to Oddballs’ proper, a secluded, 10-bed addendum with its own dining area, its own spectacular view, and bigger, walk-in mini Meru tents, with king-sized beds, and all en-suite, al-fresco Okavango-style.
Without going over the top we’ve created something with greater creature-comforts, without breaking the bank and without resorting to the gold tap. Oddballs’ Enclave fills a niche in the market, for those who want to be able to stand up in their tent, luxuriate in a large bed with crisp white linen, experience the authentic Okavango, and all in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere without pretension.
Accommodation:
Enclave is a small off-shoot which aims to give the same kind of exclusivity as a luxury camp while retaining all that is charming from the old safari days and remaining good value.
Five Meru-style tents on raised wooden platforms with bathrooms open to the trees look out over the waving grasses of the Delta. The camp itself is beautiful but the location is what makes this little place really worth visiting. Chief's Island lies at the heart of Moremi Game Reserve and was historically a royal hunting ground...and it's easy to see why.
The Enclave specializes in offering private guiding, where you guide is someone who has been brought up in this area and knows the terrain intimately. The best way to explore this area is on foot or in the time-honored dug-out canoe.
Facilities:
The central dining area, where scrumptious breakfasts and evening meals are served, is built on a raised timber deck with views over the surrounding floodplain.
There is also a cozy seating area as well as a cash bar - some of the furniture has been built using mokoros including a swing seat which adds a quaint touch to the decor.
Activities:
Oddballsʼ offers no motorized activities. Each guide has his own mokoro, (pl mekoro) (the genuine wooden article, not the plastic replica), in which heʼll take you gliding through the Okavango to nearby islands, where heʼll walk you through magnificent scenery to view game, birds, insects, medicinal plants, tracks, signs, droppings, and other fascinating natural phenomena.
Guests usually go out in the early morning, returning for a late breakfast, and venture out again in the afternoon after the midday heat has dissipated. Should you wish to go out for the whole day, weʼll be happy to pack you a picnic lunch. For guests staying a minimum of four nights, we also offer overnight camping trails by mokoro, for a minimum of two nights – although we recommend three or more to get the best out of this unique safari.
Our trails are amongst the most sought-after wilderness experiences in the world today, offering an opportunity to experience life in serenity and on its own terms in a way not easily achieved in the modern world.
