Kanga Bush Camp (Mana Pools National Park) Zimbabwe
Location:
In a rebellious break from the traditional river-fronted camps on the Lower Zambezi, Kanga is located an hour "inland" on the Kanga Pan, one of Mana Pools more remote areas. The area is perfectly undeveloped and so is ideal for exploring on foot. The key to Kanga is the pan which, as the only perennial water source for quite a distance, provides a regular watering point for elephant, buffalo and an array of plains game and their associated predators (particularly lion and wild dog).
Kanga Camp is set in the most remote part of the World Heritage Site of Mana Pools National Park in the Kanga Pan, not too far from Chitake Springs. This diverse area has a multiple of open vlei lines, river systems of the Ruckomechi River, and mixed woodland types from Mopane woodland to Jesse bushes and riverine forests. The Kanga Pan itself is the only known water source available throughout the year, making it a hub for wildlife and a delight to explore on foot. Pristine and undeveloped, this area gives you a pure, unspoilt, private African safari experience.
Accommodation:
The 12 bedded tented camp has en-suite bathroom facilities and outdoor shower and basins overlooking the water hole. One of the tents is a family tent with its own private dining and seating area.
Facilities:
The main area has a comfortable lounge and dining area offering you uninterrupted views of a very active water hole. Relax in the upper deck lounge under the shade of a mahogany or sit on the deck below near the splash pool and enjoy Kanga − the old Africa in a new era.
Activities:
Activities will include game drives in open four-wheel drive vehicles and night drives, but the most unique and exciting activity is tracking wild life on foot with a professional guide: the possibility to leave your vehicle, or even walk out of the camp with an experienced professional guide is a rare experience in National Parks, and this is one of the best walking territories in Africa. You will enjoy thrilling nature walks to areas unreachable by car, and get even closer to nature and the animals.
Kanga is the only private concession in Mana Pools: so you are unlikely to meet anyone when on game-viewing excursions, and you will get a true sense of privacy. Canoeing safaris on the Zambezi can be organized on request in advance, as well as full-day excursions to the Zambezi River.
One of the main highlights during your stay is “Kanga Under the Stars” − an opportunity to sleep on an open platform and experience the magnificence of an African night lit up solely by a sky studded with stars.
