Elephant's Eye Camp (Hwange National Park) Zimbabwe

Location:

For years the land surrounding our Hideaway’s eco lodge Elephant’s Eye, Hwange, was used for illegal poaching. It is hard to believe that just a few years ago it was not the unspoilt sanctuary it is today.
The concession covers 6000 acres, bordering the internationally renowned Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe that is famous for its large elephant population and lion numbers.

Since 2012, slowly the animals changed their behaviours and how they reacted to both the lodge and game vehicles. They used to act with fear due to poachers, and would run away and hide at the sight of any vehicle, but now the animals seem much more at ease and their numbers are increasing steadily. Every month, there is a healthy number of lion, buffalo, and leopard sightings.

In the hottest months, elephant herds visit the lodge’s pool and waterhole daily.
Elephant’s Eye, Hwange supports the conservation efforts of the CWF who have built a lot of boreholes for the animals in the area. This increase in the number of animals can be attributed to the fact that we have established several boreholes, so there’s plenty of water throughout the year and, in part, because the animals feel safe while on the concession.
