Anderssons Camp (Etosha Region) Namibia
Location:
Surrounded by scrub-covered plains on white calcrete soils, Andersson's Camp is situated close to Etosha National Park and takes its name from that of the famed Swedish explorer.
An erstwhile farmstead has been tastefully rebuilt and now forms the main area fronting onto a waterhole. From here twenty tented guest units radiate outwards - some facing onto the waterhole, others secluded in the mopane woodland so typical of the area.
Accommodation:
The Anderssons at Ongava guest suites are designed as a direct extension of the landscape, with a natural stone buttress that draws guests in and engenders a deep sense of place. Using natural elements and luxurious touches, the spacious suites reflect the environment, while offering guests a climate-controlled sanctuary in the bush. Each suite has a private viewing deck with a 180 degree panorama.
The generously proportioned suites continue the theme of discovery with décor that lends itself to a naturalist’s home. Scientific tomes, journals and a curated collection of published papers, and a digital archive are available to further pique one’s curiosity.
Each guest suite comprises of en-suite facilities with separate toilet, double indoor shower and outdoor shower, double vanity basin, mosquito net, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and electronic safe. During winter, cosy hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided.
Game Viewing / Activities:
Andersson's Camp's close proximity to Etosha is ideal for full-day self-drives into the Park which take in the plethora of game found here. Etosha National Park is Namibia's premier wildlife destination and at almost the size of Switzerland it is certainly one of Africa's largest game parks.
Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season, whilst the summer months' sporadic rainfall produces a profusion of new life - pronking baby springbok and comical young wildebeest herald the onset of summer. Birdlife in this area is prolific with over 340 species already recorded, amongst them 10 of Namibia's 14 endemic bird species.
