Kubu Lodge (Chobe National Park) Botswana

Kubu Lodge is a small, privately owned and run lodge on the banks of Botswana’s Chobe River. The elevated thatched chalets, shaded beneath giant ebony and wild fig trees, overlook a spreading lawn to the river's edge. An idyllic setting.

On the doorstep of the world famous Chobe National Park it is easy to enjoy an exceptional wildlife experience by open 4x4 vehicle or by boat. The mighty Victoria Falls is a mere hour away and day trips can be arranged. With no phones, radios or television, and no 5 Star prices, Kubu Lodge is the ideal place from which to explore our fascinating region.

Kubu Lodge has eleven thatched wooden chalets that are built on raised platforms to enhance the panoramic views of the Chobe River. Their charming, yet rustic appearance belies the comfort within. Spread out under large shady trees with an expansive lawn provides a cool and verdant ambience.

A variety of twins, doubles, triples and one family chalet are available. All are fully ensuite with hot/cold shower, basin and flush toilet. Other amenities include ceiling fans, mosquito nets, tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer.

Our restaurant is renowned for its excellent cuisine that is a fusion of European and African styles. Other facilities include a bar, a gift shop, a short nature walk, a private secluded swimming pool, and a health/beauty salon.

At Kubu Lodge we ensure our guests are spoilt with all the comforts of home and the facilities provided go a long way to achieving this goal.

Our first class restaurant delivers an exceptional menu that is a delightful fusion of traditional African dishes and refined European cuisine. Set high up with elevated views, the panorama of the Chobe River is a superb accompaniment to every dish. Enjoy dinner under the stars on the restaurant deck or the romance of the private boma for special occasions.

The relaxed and convivial atmosphere of the bar is an ideal location to swop African stories and enjoy that icy cocktail or award winning Cape wine. The secluded location of the pool offers privacy and a spectacular view of the river that can be enjoyed from the comfort of a chaise lounge in the shade of a giant ebony tree.

If you are looking for some quiet solitude then the summer reading house is the place. An extensive library of Africana books provides additional inspiration for the post card writing.

Game Viewing / Activities:

Being on the doorstep of the world famous Chobe National Park, Kubu Lodge offers a variety of activities that focus on this amazing wilderness. One can experience the massive herds of elephants and buffalo, watch Africa’s top predators and enjoy unparalleled birding.

Professional guides take our guests on an exploration of both the interior and waterfront of the Chobe National Park in specially adapted 4x4 vehicles and motorboats. The variety and density of wildlife is exceptional but it is the park’s elephant herds that are the main attraction.

Sundowner Cruise

From the lodge we offer a quiet sunset cruise to the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers aboard our ‘Finfoot’ boat. This is the only place on earth where four countries meet at one point.

Nature Trail

Take a stroll along the lodge nature trail that meanders for 2km through a mix of riverine and miombo woodland. Catch a glimpse of one of the resident Chobe Bushbuck or follow a troop of mongoose as they forage.

Other ‘Must do’s’

With the mighty Victoria Falls only an hour’s drive away, day trips are easy to arrange.

Visit a working crocodile farm and see some of the largest specimens in captivity.

The recently opened ‘Biodiversity Centre’ is a must for those who are interested in the less commonly seen wildlife. The country’s largest collection of indigenous snakes is housed here.

Fully guided sport fishing (catch & release) can be arranged to do battle with the feisty Tiger fish.
